Exceptional digital SLR with exclusive 8.2 Megapixel Canon CMOS Sensor and DIGIC II Image Processor

8.2 Megapixel CMOS Sensor
Canon's large-area CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range, and offers the most pixels in its class. This APS-C size sensor (22.5 x 15.0mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, enabling an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length. The EOS 30D has an extensive ISO range (from 100 to 1600 plus ISO 3200 in extended mode), which is selectable in 1/3-stop increments. The sensor features a newly developed set of narrow-gap microlenses and noise reduction circuits to improve performance at high ISO values, and optimized photodiode configurations for improved performance at all ISO values. This results in larger, clearer, sharper and more detailed photographs right from the start.

DIGIC II Image Processor
The EOS 30D is the product of Canon's extensive in-house development: The DIGIC II Image Processor was designed specifically for Canon digital SLRs and enhances every aspect of image capture. Information captured by the CMOS sensor is processed and assembled into images of exceptional quality. With the DIGIC II Image Processor on board, photographers can expect natural color reproduction, precise white balance in any number of lighting situations and unparalleled clarity. The DIGIC II Image Processor employs sophisticated signal processing algorithms and works at greater speeds, all while consuming less energy. The entire processing chip - not just the software that drives it - is dedicated for use in a digital still camera.

Every function optimized for fast RAW and JPEG captureUser-selectable high-speed and low-speed continuous shooting at 5 fps or 3 fps - up to 30 (JPEG), 11 (RAW) or 9 (RAW+JPEG) consecutive frames when set at 5 fps and fast 0.15-second startup time

The EOS 30D is one of the fastest cameras Canon has ever produced. Incorporating the fast operation of the EOS 20D, the 30D allows users to specify high-speed 5 fps or a new low-speed 3 fps continuous shooting for more controlled shooting and/or to save space on the CF card. And it can capture up to 30 JPEG and 11 RAW (or 9 RAW + JPEG) files in one burst. Whether it's the 0.15-second startup time, the high-speed mirror drive, the nearly instant 65-millisecond shutter release lag time or the predictive AF focusing at speeds up to 5.0 frames per second, the EOS 30D will amaze and delight photographers who don't want to wait for their camera when they're ready to shoot.

A new level of clarity for reviewLarge 2.5 inch LCD monitor that can be viewed at extreme angles up to 170°

The EOS 30D has a brilliant 2.5 inch LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 pixels. Adopted from Canon's professional EOS SLRs, this monitor not only displays more information, it can also be viewed at a greater angle (170°) than many conventional LCD monitors. The full-featured shot information screen not only provides an RGB histogram, it can display the AF frame used. Magnification has never been faster. Magnification zooms to the focus point rather than the center of the image to check exposure and critical focus. It is also simple to jump quickly in image intervals up to 100. Menus are accessed at the touch of a button and feature larger text that is easier to read. Whether changing color parameters, setting up custom functions, organizing folders or setting white balance, the EOS 30D helps photographers get to their information quickly, so they never miss a shot.

RemoteCapture
This software, along with the supplied interface cable, allows users to remotely operate the camera from a computer. Zooming, flash mode, image quality and shutter release can all be controlled, whether taking single images, using the timer (2 to 30 seconds in 1-second increments) or using the interval timer (5 seconds to 60 minutes in 1-second increments). Recording of images directly to the computer is also possible.

ZoomBrowser EX / ImageBrowser EX
This software allows users to download, upload, view, manage, edit, and convert JPEG and RAW files on their computer. Editing features include cropping, adjustment of contrast and saturation, and alteration of image dimensions and resolution. Output options include Flashpix, JPEG, TIFF and BMP.

Compatible with all EF Lenses and many EOS system accessories
EF Lenses
All Canon lenses in the extensive EF lineup, ranging from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses, are fully compatible with the EOS 10D. This popular lens lineup employs advanced optical know-how and micron precision engineering to deliver unprecedented performance that facilitates artistic expression. Aspherical optics and Flourite elements, for example, are featured in the universally acclaimed L-series lenses. And Canon's landmark Image Stabilization minimizes the effect of camera shake. Through Canon's EF lenses, photographers can truly maximize the quality and liberating performance of the EOS 10D.

Additional Features

Automatic Rotation of Vertical Images
Whenever you view stored images on the LCD or through video output display, images that were taken with the EOS 10D turned sideways are rotated automatically to the upright position for easier viewing.

Shooting Modes
The EOS 10D's convenient shooting modes make it easy to obtain professional results. Simply select the best mode for the shooting situation, set options when available, and let the EOS 10D handle the rest.

35-zone Evaluative Metering System/E-TTL Autoflash Algorithm
The EOS 10D offers wide-ranging control over exposure through its proven Evaluative Metering System, which features maximum aperture TTL metering, 35-zone SPC, three selectable modes and improved overall precision via a new algorithm. The evaluative metering mode links to all AF points, metering the entire image area, while the center-weighted average metering mode lets photographers apply their own compensation. The partial central metering mode uses 13.5% of the central area an cannot be linked to the AF point. To obtain more stable flash exposures, the EOS 10D's algorithm for calculating the main flash output is based on the algorithm used by the EOS-1v and EOS-1D/1Ds. Since a wide area of the entire image is metered for flash, the flash exposure remains stable even if the framing is slightly changed. Meter readings from highly reflective surfaces are ignored or the weighting is reduced so that it will not adversely affect the exposure of the subject.

Custom Functions
17 Custom Functions with 61 settings provide a method of tailoring certain features and controls to meet your needs. Many of these functions are similar to those in professional EOS film cameras, while others allow control of purely digital features. Custom Functions are easily selectable through an easy-to-use menu that displays text in your choice of 12 languages (English, German, French, Japanese, Dutch, Danish, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish or Chinese).

Canon EOS 10d Description

The Canon EOS 10D's 6.3 megapixel Canon CMOS sensor delivers superbly detailed images, and 7-point high-speed AF allows precise focusing over a wide area. A powerful DIGIC (DIGital Imaging Core) processor optimizes color rendition. High speed processing means a continuous burst of 9 shots at 3 frames per second is possible. It also extends the camera's battery life. The EOS 10D can write RAW and JPEG files simultaneously, while there's a choice of 6 JPEG resolution settings. For enhanced exposure stability, the EOS 10D has a new evaluative metering system for both daylight and flash. As well as sRGB, the Canon EOS 10D features Adobe RGB. This improves color rendition by capturing colors across an extremely wide spectrum. An ISO speed range from 100 - 1600 (3200 Extended HI accessible via the ISO expansion menu) offers extensive shooting flexibility whatever the lighting conditions. 9 white balance modes are available Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Flash, Custom and Color Temperature. In Color Temperature mode, users manually select the warmth they require from the Kelvin scale (2800K to 10000K in 100K increments). With White Balance Bracketing, the EOS 10D automatically captures three bracketed shots (normal, reddish and bluish) with one release of the shutter. An Intelligent Orientation Sensor detects whether the camera is being held horizontally or vertically when shooting. This gives more accurate exposures. It also means easy viewing and editing, since shots appear the right way up on the LCD, in ZoomBrowser on the computer screen or on TV. The EOS 10D's LCD offers 5 levels of brightness. It can be brightened so it's easier to see or dimmed so it's less intrusive and saves power. The menu display offers the choice of 12 different languages. With a robust magnesium alloy body, the Canon EOS 10D has outstanding durability and a distinctive presence. It features an ergonomic hand-grip which makes extended shooting very comfortable. The EOS 10D is the first digital EOS camera to feature Direct Print. High-resolution prints can be obtained by connecting straight to a Canon Bubble Jet or Card Photo Printer. The Canon EOS 10D has FAT 16/32 data storage, allowing compatibility with high capacity CF cards over 2GB. The EOS 10D is compatible with the extensive EOS range of accessories.
